How Archeus's Browser Use Works

An inside look at how Archeus navigates the web autonomously — reading pages, extracting data, and taking actions on your behalf.

Autonomous Web Navigation

Archeus includes a built-in browser that operates autonomously within a secure sandbox. When your task requires web research, data extraction, or form submission, the browser agent takes over. It navigates to URLs, reads page content, follows links, and interacts with web elements — all without exposing your local machine to external threats.

The browser agent is not a simple scraper that downloads HTML and parses text. It is a full Chromium instance with JavaScript execution, CSS rendering, and support for modern web applications. This means it can handle single-page applications, dynamic content loaded via AJAX, cookie-based authentication flows, and interactive elements like dropdowns and modals.

When you ask Archeus to research a topic, the browser agent identifies relevant sources, navigates to each one, reads the content, extracts key information, and moves to the next source. It handles redirects, manages cookies, and respects rate limits to ensure reliable and ethical web access.

How It Works Under the Hood

The browser runs inside an isolated container powered by our sandbox infrastructure. Each session is ephemeral — once the task completes, the container is destroyed along with any temporary data, cookies, or cached files. Nothing persists beyond the task lifecycle.

Archeus uses a headless Chromium instance with full JavaScript execution. The browser is configured with realistic user-agent strings, viewport dimensions, and rendering capabilities that match a standard desktop browser. This ensures compatibility with websites that detect and block automated browsers.

The browser agent operates through a series of actions: navigating to URLs, waiting for page loads, scrolling to view content, clicking elements, filling forms, and extracting data. Each action is logged and can be reviewed after the task completes. The agent uses intelligent selectors to find elements on the page, adapting to different website structures.

Data Extraction and Processing

When the browser encounters relevant data, it extracts structured information and passes it back to the main agent for processing. This could be text content from articles, tabular data from reports, metadata from pages, or specific values from forms and interfaces.

The extraction process is intelligent — the browser agent understands context and can identify relevant content even on complex pages with navigation menus, sidebars, advertisements, and other distracting elements. It focuses on the main content area and filters out noise automatically.

Extracted data is cleaned, normalized, and formatted for immediate use. Text content is parsed into structured sections, tables are converted to structured data formats, and images are described or OCR'd as needed. The processed data is then integrated into your task context, ready for analysis or further processing.

Security and Privacy

Every browser session runs in a sandbox with no access to your local file system, network, or other sandboxes. Credentials and sensitive data are never stored in the browser session. When authentication is required, Archeus prompts you to provide credentials securely through encrypted channels.

Archeus respects robots.txt directives and implements intelligent rate limiting to ensure ethical web scraping. The browser agent identifies itself appropriately and follows standard web etiquette. It does not bypass paywalls, access restricted content, or perform any actions that violate website terms of service.

All network traffic from the browser is encrypted using TLS 1.3. The sandbox isolates the browser from your local network, preventing any data exfiltration or unauthorized access. Network activity is logged and auditable, giving you full visibility into what the browser accesses.

Use Cases

Browser use enables a wide range of automation scenarios. You can research competitors by visiting their websites and extracting pricing information. You can monitor news sites for relevant articles and summarize key findings. You can fill out forms, submit applications, or interact with web-based tools on your behalf.

For developers, the browser agent can test web applications, verify deployment status, and extract data from admin interfaces. For researchers, it can access academic databases, download papers, and compile literature reviews. For business users, it can gather market data, track industry trends, and compile competitive intelligence reports.

The browser agent works seamlessly with other Archeus skills. You can browse a website, extract data, process it through analysis skills, and generate reports — all from a single prompt. This composability makes browser use one of the most powerful capabilities in the Archeus toolkit.
