Multi-Model Orchestration

How Archeus leverages different AI models for different tasks, choosing the right model for each job.

The Right Model for the Job

Not all AI models are equal at every task. Some models excel at creative writing, others at code generation, and others at analytical reasoning. Archeus multi-model orchestration leverages this diversity by routing tasks to the model best suited for each job.

The orchestration layer analyzes task requirements — the type of work, complexity level, domain specificity, and output format needed. Based on this analysis, it selects the optimal model from the available options. Simple tasks might use fast, efficient models, while complex reasoning tasks might use more powerful but slower models.

This approach optimizes for both quality and cost. Routine tasks complete quickly with efficient models, while critical tasks receive the full power of the best available models. The result is better overall performance at lower cost than using a single model for everything.

Model Selection Logic

Model selection is based on multiple factors. Task type determines the primary model category — code models for programming tasks, language models for writing tasks, reasoning models for analysis tasks. Task complexity determines the model tier — lightweight models for simple tasks, heavy-duty models for complex work.

Domain specificity also influences selection. Some models are fine-tuned for specific domains like medicine, law, or finance. Archeus maintains a model registry that tracks capabilities, performance characteristics, and domain expertise for each available model.

Fallback strategies ensure reliability. If the primary model is unavailable or produces low-quality output, the system automatically retries with alternative models. This redundancy ensures consistent performance even when individual models experience issues.

Quality Monitoring

Every model output is monitored for quality. The system tracks accuracy, relevance, format compliance, and user satisfaction across models and task types. This data informs model selection decisions and identifies models that need updating or replacement.

Quality metrics are broken down by task category, revealing strengths and weaknesses for each model. This granular performance data enables fine-tuned selection — using Model A for creative writing but Model B for technical documentation, for example.

The monitoring system also detects quality degradation over time. Models that were previously reliable might produce declining output due to data drift, prompt changes, or other factors. Early detection allows proactive replacement before quality issues affect users.

Cost Optimization

Multi-model orchestration enables significant cost optimization. By routing simple tasks to cheaper models and reserving expensive models for complex work, Archeus reduces overall compute costs while maintaining quality where it matters most.

Token usage is tracked across models and tasks, providing visibility into cost drivers. This data supports optimization decisions — identifying tasks that can be handled by cheaper models without quality loss, and tasks that justify premium model costs.

Cost budgets can be configured at the organization or project level. Archeus respects these budgets by preferring cost-effective models when quality requirements allow. Budget constraints are balanced against quality requirements to optimize value delivery.
